Pollock-inspired exhibition from Anglesey artist comes to Caernarfon gallery

A NEW exhibition featuring intense and deeply expressive paintings is to come to the Caernarfon gallery, “Life: Full Colour”, this April.

Titled “From Inside Out – Inspiration of Nathan Jones”, the exhibition is by Nathan Jones, a contemporary expressionist artist based in Anglesey, North Wales.

The exhibition features about 22 new pieces of work with subjects drawn from the artist’s subconscious.

Each one of Nathan’s paintings starts with hope, followed by a spontaneous response, a memory, an imaginary creation, or an inspiration caught on a walk.

Visitors to the exhibition will see local landmarks known to many, such as Penmon Lighthouse, Nathan’s puffin portraits, as well as fantastical abstracts that will challenge the mind and eye.

“From Inside Out” will also include paintings inspired by Jackson Pollock, where Nathan has merged Pollock’s characteristic paint splatters with wildlife imagery.

Like Pollock, Nathan paints with everything from pallet knives to socks to create different textures and movement.

Sara McKee, Life: Full Colour owner and curator, said: “Nathan’s paintings are bursting with emotion.

“From his intense seascapes with their brooding skies to his whirling abstracts, you can feel the happiness, frustration, love and anger pouring out from the canvas.

“Nathan’s work is magnetic and it is a thrill to be showing off his new paintings to a local audience.”

Nathan added: “My exhibition will take you on an adventure through my daily emotions and hurdles.

“I’ve taken more risks and the work is looser than in my previous shows. There is a little piece of my heart and soul in every piece.

“I want visitors to the show to feel inspired by looking at something they’ve not seen before.

“I want to make them think about what they’re looking at and how they’re feeling, and to try to appreciate the idea of spontaneousness.”

Nathan Jones’ solo exhibition will open at Life: Full Colour on April 8 and closes on May 20.

All work can be purchased using zero per cent finance from CollectorPlan.

The gallery is located at 23-25 Hole in the Wall Street, Caernarfon, and is open every Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 6pm.
