Witness appeal after murder probe on Anglesey

A 58 year old Holyhead man has died in hospital following an assault in the town which is being regarded as a murder by North Wales Police.

North Wales Police have made an appeal for witnesses to the assault which took place between 10 and 11am last Tuesday November 17 in the Thomas Street and Mount Pleasant area of Holyhead.

Detectives have set up an ‘incident room’ at Llangefni Police Station and DCI Brian Kearney said: “From enquiries to date, we have established the victim managed to walk the short distance down Thomas Street past the Cenotaph to his partner’s address near Holborn Road, Holyhead.

“Shortly after the assault, the victim was taken by emergency ambulance to Ysbyty Gwynedd and transferred later that evening to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

“Despite the best efforts of the medical teams he tragically died last night, Thursday November 19 with his family by his side. The victim’s family are obviously deeply traumatised and are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers. I would request that their privacy is respected at this tragic time.”

He added: “I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this assault or saw a male unsteady on his feet between Holborn Road, Victoria Road and Thomas Street between 1000 and 1100hrs on Tuesday or has any other relevant information in relation to this murder enquiry to contact North Wales Police.

“Anglesey remains one of the safest communities in the UK, due to the help we receive from our community in such serious crime investigations. I would like to reiterate, that if you have any information whatsoever, please come forward and assist us. We are very grateful to those who have already come forward and supported the investigation.”
